Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't find your question or answer here, please contact us!

How much food is in one share?

If you receive a delivery share, or if you are a winter share member, we will pack a half bushel box for you which will have 8-11(or so) different vegetables in it.  If you pick your share up from the farm during the growing season, you can pick and choose what you want for the week, with your total share volume being 1 paper grocery bag full (as a visual).  U-Pick is in addition to your regular share.  If you pick up your share from the farm during the growing season, please check the chalkboard first to see what is limited!

Do you sell half shares?  Can I split my share with someone else?

No, we don't sell half shares, and we strongly discourage share-splitting.  Our share is meant to supply either one household OR a maximum of two adults in separate households with plenty of produce for one week's meals.  One of the beauties of our particular CSA share is that within this framework, members are encouraged to take whatever they need for that week ("take what you want, but eat what you take that week!").  The share may appear to be very large if you watch what a big household takes, but the actual size of the share is flexible according to what people need.  So, don't feel pressure to take more food than you need, and don't elevate that pressure by sharing it with another household (unless the two households together consist of only two adults).  We won't be able to continue to offer the "take what you'd like" feature of CSA pick-up if non-authorized share-splitting occurs.

How much is my monthly payment, and when is it due?

For the Summer Share there are 4 monthly payments. Payments for all pick-up and delivery options are $115 due June 15, July 15th, August 15th, and September 15th.  Healthy Food for All payments are $54 each time.

Winter share payments are $105 and due December 15th and January 15th.

Where do I mail my payment?

Our address is:

The Full Plate Farm Collective, LLC
P.O. Box 6898
Ithaca, N.Y. 14851

please make checks payable to: Full Plate

What if I am having trouble making my monthly payment, or my circumstances have changed?

Your agreement with us is for the entire season. However, life happens, and we are fully aware of that!

Please call or email Sara sooner than later - we can work something out for sure.  DO NOT just stop coming and expect that we will stop counting on you to pay for your share.  If we can't work anything else out, we can offer your share to someone on the wait list.  Most likely we can make arrangemnts for you to keep getting it.

Do I have to bring my own bags to the farm?

Yes!  We suggest bringing a standard paper grocery bag to your first pick-up so that you can get a sense of how much a share looks like.

When are the U-Pick patches open to members?

Anytime!  Really, anytime of the week, and anytime of the day.  The first time you come to U-Pick, please come during a regular pick-up time (3-7pm Wednesdays at Stick and Stone, or 10-2 Saturdays at Three Swallows) so that Sara can lead you through an orientation.  After that, you can help yourself!  U-Pick is included in your share - there is no additional cost.

Farm PU Members (summer only)

If something comes up last minute, just go to another day's pick up (no need to call or email Sara). We usually have enough of free choice items, but please check in with Sara about limited crops if it is not your regular scheduled pick up. If you can't make it to any of the pick-ups that week, please consider having a friend our house-sitter pick up your share. Its a great way to introduce the CSA concept to a friend!  Or consider giving your share to the food pantry (extras at the end of the distribution will be donated).

If none of those options work for you and you want to hold your share and double up another week, please email Sara by Monday at 5pm of the week you will be away.

Box Share Members (summer and winter)
Please email Sara by Monday at 5pm of the week that you want to hold delivery. You may double up another week in the season. However, if you are going out of town please consider having a friend our house sitter pick up your share. It's a great way to introduce the CSA concept to a friend!

We harvest before each pick-up and delivery day, and need to know how many to harvest for.

Can someone else pick up my share?

Sure.  Just have them sign in under your name, and introduce themselves to Sara if they'll be picking up your share  at the farm.  She'll show them the ropes.

What if my veggie box was not there?

If you receive a delivery share, it comes boxed in a 1/2 bushel waxed box on Thursdays. If you do not receive one, please call Sara: 379.2866

We will make sure to get it to you!

What if my bread/fruit/CSK was not there?

If you are missing your bread, fruit or meat shares, and it is delivery day, please call Sara.

Alternately you may call or email the producer directly (links to their websites are here).

As always, feel free to email Sara, or call her at 379.2866.

What if I am late picking up my group delivery box?

If you know ahead of time that you will not make it to pick up your box in time please email Sara or your site host.

If life happens in such a way that you don't have too much warning, please see the information on your specific site.

How do I open my boxed share without ripping the box?

Your share is packed in a 1/2 bushel waxed box.  These boxes cost over a dollar a piece and are good for 4-5 uses if they are handled properly.  Squeeze the top flap back until the tabs release from the side slits.  DO NOT PULL STRAIGHT UP ON THE BOX - have some patience, the food will wait for you!  If you are doing it right, it won't tear.  Please flatten the box (doing the same thing to the bottom of the box) and leave it the following Thursday where Garden Gate delivery left your full box the week before.  We will reuse them for as long as we can.  They are not recyclable at the curb b/c of the wax! Check out this VIDEO on how to break down a box.

How can I get more involved in the CSA and local food?

Share your enthusiasm - be generous with your ideas, recipes, and your love of local food! There's always lots to do! Check out our Get Involved page.

What is Sara's phone number and when can I reach her?

You can call at anytime, but please reserve middle of the night inquiries for email communication only.  Sara's number is (607) 379 - 2866.

What is this vegetable and how do I use it?
